Is there a connection to Swarowsky?
According to my 2xgreat grandmother, Maria Anna Fleischmann’s baptismal registration, my 3xgreat grandmother, Maria Anna Rößler was the daughter of Joseph Rößler, Cottager, in Oberschwarzbrunn (Horní Černá Studnice) Nro. 47 and Theresia née Swarowsky from Brande (Žďár near Tanvald) N. 26 both ruled from Morchenstern, which is where my 2xgreat granmother and her daughter Anna Wolf were listed as coming from on the passenger list on the Cesar Godeffroy on which they came to South Australia in 1877.
The famous glass producer, Swarovski is headquartered in Wattens, Austria. Swarovski has been a family-owned business since it was founded in 1895 by Daniel Swarovski. He was born in northern Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), 20 km from the current border with Poland. From the baptism information, he may have been related to us. His father was a glass cutter and owned a small glass factory. It was there that the young Swarovski served an apprenticeship, becoming skilled in the art of glass-cutting. In 1892 he patented an electric cutting machine that facilitated the production of crystal glass.
